How To

How to drive a nails in wood

To drive a nail into wood, the first step is to select the right size and type hammer. There are many types of hammers that you will find: claw hammers and sledgehammers; mallets; ball peen hammers; and hatchets. Each type has its strengths and weaknesses. A claw hammer is best for hitting nails or hard objects. However, it can be difficult to pinpoint exactly where the blow will land. A sledgehammer allows you to hit large areas simultaneously, but it is too heavy and cumbersome to use for small tasks.

After choosing the right hammer, place your hand flat against the side of the head so that the handle rests comfortably in your palm. Hold the handle in your hand, but don’t force it too hard that you break. Your wrist should be relaxed while you hold the hammer straight upwards. Swing the hammer back towards the ground, with your aim at the middle of the nail. You should feel the impact of your hammer hitting the nail. Try swinging a hammer using a block wood to practice until you are comfortable.

When you're ready to start driving the nail, hold the hammer in front of you close to your body. To ensure that the nail is perpendicular on the surface of the wooden floor, position it. Keep your eyes on the tip. Swing the hammer forward, and then move the hammerhead. Continue this motion several times, slowly increasing the speed of each swing. When you are confident with the technique, add power to your swings. To make it more powerful, hold the hammer up high to your shoulder and then bring it down. You'll have more energy to work with.

Once you have successfully drilled the first hole in the nail, remove the hammer. To pull out the remaining nails, use a screwdriver or pry bar. To prevent splitting the wood, ensure you keep the nail heads flush against the board's surface.
